

Dr. Daniel Jacobson López
Dr. Jacobson López is currently an Assistant Professor and Deputy Title IX Coordinator at Boston University, School of Social Work and Visiting Faculty at Yale University, School of Public Health. He has been inducted into University of Pennsylvania’s Hall of Fame in 2024 and has won numerous awards. He is also faculty affiliate in the Center for Innovation and Social Sciences at Boston University. He is a LCSW, certified sexual assault counselor and a trained anti-bias trainer.
He was a former intern with the United Nations and is a SAMHSA Doctoral Minority Fellow and Albert Schweitzer fellow alumnus. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame at the University of Pennsylvania in 2024 at the School of Social Policy and Practice (UPenn bio) and has received awards from Black Men at Penn and The Center for Hispanic Excellence, from the University of Pennsylvania, where he received his Master in Social Work. He was the first Latino to receive a PhD from the University of Pittsburgh School of Social Work. He has a PhD Certificate in Gender, Sexuality and Women’s Studies and a Graduate Certification from Katz Graduate School of Business from Pitt (feature) and is also a Licensed Social Worker and Certified Sexual Assault Counselor. He was appointed by the President of San Diego State University to be on the Blue Ribbon Task Force, a gender-based violence taskforce with other experts in the field. He has received grants and was a STAR Fellow at Boston University. He received his BA from Skidmore College. He is also an anti-bias trainer and consultant.

Dr. López is the first Latino and Latin American PhD graduate at Pitt’s School of Social Work and founder of the first Latinx graduate student organization at the University of Pittsburgh. He also was appointed as the inaugural Chair of Diversity and Inclusion for the University of Pittsburgh Postdoctoral Association at Pitt. He also was in the inaugural cohort of the STARS DEI Program at Boston University. He ensured that for the first time UPitt add “ethnicity” to their non-discrimination policy in his role to protect Latine students (news feature).

Researcher
Dr. López focuses on sexual assault against gay Latino and/or Black men. His primary research objective is focused on developing culturally responsive, trauma-informed and evidence-based health interventions for gay Latino and Black sexual assault survivors in the United States. Dr. Lopez has also participated in research in Ghana with Dr. LaRon Nelson with Yale School of Nursing. His research areas also include Latino MSM, immigration, violence against gay Black men, and the effects of COVID-19 on people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA). He has been published in various peer-reviewed journals including, Journal of Interpersonal Violence, Violence Against Women. and AIDS Care. He has published with other scholars at various universities, including Provost Jackson at UPenn. His research is conducted in English, Spanish, and Portuguese. Boston University has listed him as “7 Latinx Researchers Making a Difference“, which speaks to the importance and influence of his research.
Social Justice Advocate
He has served on over 25 positions for DEI and sexual assault prevention. He received awards from Black Men at Penn and the Center of Hispanic Excellence for his leadership at the University of Pennsylvania. He was President of the Hispanic/Latino Alliance for Change and Equity and the Vice Chair for the Latin American Graduate and Professional Student Assembly (overseeing all twelve graduate school Latinx student groups). He is the first Latino PhD graduate at the School of Social Work at the University of Pittsburgh. In 2015, he founded the first Latinx graduate student organization at the University of Pittsburgh (LAGOS) and has been on seven other executive boards. He was appointed as the inaugural Chair of Diversity and Inclusion at the University of Pittsburgh (Please refer to CV for complete advocacy positions). He was on the Faulty Diversity Committee in the Graduate School of Public Health, where he works with other faculty on color to submit recommendations to the School to enhance the campus experience for Black and Brown students. He also serves on various DEI committees, and LGBTQIA+ communities at Boston University.
